Shared web hosting: hosts compared on printed prices
Shared hosting is the cheapest stack and the one sold most aggressively on intro prices: a single server carries many sites, and the entry price on the sign-up page requires a prepaid term of one to four years, after which the plan renews at three or four times the figure. Every host below has a live shared hosting page on its own domain and a printed price, quoted verbatim with the date, with the term and renewal beside it where the page prints them.

A host appears here when its own live page for Shared web hosting answered at the linked URL on the date shown. Prices in the table are each host's printed entry price for its flagship stack, the term that price requires and what it renews at; the entry price of a host's other stacks is on its own page, linked beside the figure.
Choosing a shared hosting plan
Read the renewal first. The intro price is the price of the prepaid term; the renewal is the standing price. Two hosts with the same intro can differ by half at renewal, and the table shows both.
Decide the term before the host. A 48-month prepay is the cheapest month and the longest commitment; a 12-month prepay costs more per month and lets you leave. Pick the term you would actually stay for, then compare hosts at that term on their own pages.
Count what is included. A free domain for a year, an SSL certificate and email are standard; site count, storage and visits limits are where entry plans differ, and they are on the host's page linked beside each price.
Common questions
- What is the cheapest shared hosting?
- By printed entry price, the hosts at the top of the table; by renewal, often a different order. Both figures are quoted from each host's page with the term the entry price requires.
- Why do shared hosting prices go up at renewal?
- Because the entry price is an intro price for the first prepaid term. Each host prints the renewal on its page, and the table carries it beside the intro so year two is visible before you buy.
- Is shared hosting enough for a business site?
- For a brochure site or a small blog, usually. For a store or a site that takes enquiries, the WordPress hosting stack with staging and managed updates is the safer purchase; the VPS stack is the step above.
